Just a reminder about recycling at Chadwick.
We continue to recycle 20 oz soda bottles (NO water bottles). The
bottles should be empty but they do not need to be rinsed. Please
put the cap back on and do not crush them. In 2006, Chadwick
earned enough money to “save” .55 acres of rainforest
in Borneo that is the habitat of orangutans. The project
for 2007 is to save beach areas in Costa Rica that are nesting
sites for leatherback sea turtles.
We also are recycling used ink cartridges, toner
cartridges and cell phones (no rechargers). For these items we receive
money that we can use to but new trees or plants for our schoolyard. PLEASE
CHECK THOSE DRAWERS AND CUPBOARDS AT HOME TO SEE IF YOU HAVE
ANY OF THE LISTED ITEMS.
Thanks!
The Green School Committee
A
committee of staff, students and community members applied for, and
were awarded Maryland Green School Status. This means we provide
instruction about the environment and how to care for it to all students. In
addition, Chadwick is working to improve our natural environment
by enhancing wildlife habitat on the school grounds, recycling, and
conserving energy and water usage.
In the spring of 2006, the Chadwick community had a very successful
outdoor work day. Bare areas of our school grounds were mulched
to prevent run off into the Chesapeake Bay and new trees were planted
to attract wildlife. Fourth grade students and staff continue
the work of maintaining our schoolyard habitat so that all students
can enjoy nature right outside our doors.
